Wiltshire at War

The Wiltshire at War: Community Stories project is a five year HLF funded project, aiming to bring people together from across Wiltshire to discover, explore and share stories about Wiltshire’s response to the First World War.

Five touring exhibitions telling different aspects of the Wiltshire at War story – these will travel to towns and villages throughout Wiltshire from 2015 to 2019.

The Call to Arms, tells the story of Wiltshire’s response to the First World War through the mobilisation of troops and the development of camps and airfields across Salisbury Plain. It presents true stories of Wiltshire people, from the men and boys who answered the first call to join up, to the regular soldiers who learned to fight a new kind of war involving digging trenches and firing mortar shells. - Dawn Gorman
