Purton on a Plate
This year’s exhibition is Purton on a Plate which will highlight some of the food outlets and organisations that have fed Purtonians over the years, crockery used by village groups and Purton branded items made of china.

In January, the original canopy from the premises of GE Wilkins Butcher in Lower Square was removed. The canopy was made by The Artistic Blind Co, Bath, and was likely erected in the late 1890s. George Wilkins began trading in 1896 (the museum has a conveyance document between Henry Bizley and George Edward Wilkins, Butcher from this date) and his son, James Charles Wilkins, took over the business in the 1930s followed by Len Mitchard in 1951.
